You know, when we're young children like at their age, 00:46:38.640 |
to dress up and stand in front of people, you know? 00:46:46.640 |
and especially once you start having children. 00:46:58.640 |
and, you know, there's various stages that you go through, 00:47:00.640 |
and I know we have people from various stages, 00:47:06.640 |
But beyond how it is subjectively we celebrate, 00:47:11.640 |
traditions that you have created in your family, 00:47:19.640 |
because Christmas has become a universal holiday, 00:47:26.640 |
you'll see Santa Claus, you'll see Christmas trees, 00:47:30.640 |
not really understanding what they're singing. 00:47:44.640 |
and then if you ask them the meaning behind that, 00:48:28.640 |
"Two, you shall call his name Jesus, number two. 00:48:47.720 |
as we celebrate Christmas today and tomorrow. 00:48:54.640 |
Now, this was not a gender reveal party, right? 00:49:09.640 |
The angel was not revealing the gender of a child. 00:49:15.720 |
If you look previously, before the angel makes his prophecy, 00:49:19.640 |
Matthew begins with a long, boring list of names. 00:49:24.640 |
And so if you don't understand what's going on, 00:49:27.640 |
"Wow, this is the presentation of the Son of God, 00:49:45.640 |
So when the angel says that you will have a son, 00:49:49.640 |
that this son was not going to be any ordinary son. 00:49:58.640 |
that they'd been waiting for hundreds of years, 00:50:03.640 |
The very next text in Matthew 1, 22, 23 says, 00:50:08.640 |
"to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet. 00:50:31.640 |
So when the angel says that you're going to have a son, 00:50:48.640 |
Jeremiah 31, 15, 600 years before Jesus ever showed up, 00:50:56.640 |
is going to go and slaughter all these young children 00:50:58.640 |
because he was afraid that he was going to lose his throne. 00:51:03.640 |
That was prophesied 600 years before this ever happened. 00:51:22.640 |
that Jesus is the fulfillment of that prophecy in Isaiah 00:51:25.640 |
which was given more than 750 years before he showed up. 00:51:39.640 |
that were made about Christ, his birth, his life, 00:51:52.640 |
"You know what? I don't believe all this miracle 00:51:54.640 |
"about the virgin birth and about the Son of God showing up." 00:52:02.720 |
to take an objective look at what the Old Testament says. 00:52:16.640 |
So when this angel says, "You're going to have that child," 00:52:36.640 |
And so in our generation, some of you put some thought into it 00:52:39.640 |
and maybe it's a family member or a significant name 00:52:42.640 |
or just some of you maybe choose just because it sounds good. 00:52:45.640 |
Maybe you were picked on when you were a kid, 00:52:49.640 |
that you can't pick on your child with this name. 00:52:54.640 |
Joseph and Mary were not given the opportunity 00:52:58.720 |
to name their child because this child was directly from God. 00:53:01.640 |
God names a child and says, "He is going to be named Jesus." 00:53:05.640 |
Now, the reason why this name is so significant, 00:53:08.640 |
Jesus is the Greek name of the Old Testament name Joshua. 00:53:13.640 |
Now, Joshua is the butchered way that we say it. 00:53:17.640 |
The actual Hebrew way of saying that is Yehoshua. 00:53:21.640 |
Yehoshua literally in Hebrew means Yahweh saves. 00:53:28.640 |
Now, the significance of this name, of Jesus' name, 00:53:31.640 |
is it prophesies and tells us what Jesus is going to do, 00:53:37.640 |
But what's interesting about this name, Yahweh saves, 00:53:41.640 |
is that if you look at the Hebrew spelling of this name, 00:53:45.640 |
the way we spell it in English is Y-A-H-W-E-H, Yahweh. 00:53:59.640 |
when God tells Moses to go tell Pharaoh to let my people go, 00:54:04.640 |
"By what authority am I going to go to Pharaoh 00:54:32.640 |
So if we were to translate that into modern-day significance, 00:54:42.640 |
is that when Hebrew was written in the Old Testament, 00:54:47.640 |
So the A and the E that you see in Yahweh didn't exist. 00:55:10.640 |
and you were to pronounce it without the vowels, 00:55:46.560 |
that when you turn it on and when you turn it off, 00:55:56.560 |
So the first thing that happens when you turn it on, 00:56:10.560 |
what's the last thing that you see before it turns off? 00:56:15.560 |
Because they want to remind you every time you turn it on, 00:56:22.560 |
Well, the very breath is an expression of his name. 00:56:30.560 |
the very first thing that comes out of our mouth is breath. 00:57:04.560 |
God has imprinted himself in our very breath. 00:57:43.560 |
