00:00:00.000 |
So the first session we talked about walking with the Word which is the wisdom of our minds. 00:00:15.000 |
So this session we are going to be talking about walking with the Spirit which is the 00:00:31.000 |
Paul says in Ephesians chapter 5 in Revenge this morning, verse 18, I'm just going to 00:00:41.000 |
He says, "Do not get drunk with wine, but that is debauchery, but be what? 00:00:54.000 |
Filled, indwell, empowered, infused, influenced by the Spirit." 00:01:04.000 |
And he says that the fruits of that or the external evidence we see here from Paul that 00:01:11.000 |
we address one another in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody 00:01:19.000 |
It didn't say you have to be singing in tune, thank God, but to make melody to the Lord 00:01:27.000 |
And so one of the external evidence of the dwelling of the Spirit of God in the believer's 00:01:38.000 |
It's like we sing because there's joy in our hearts. 00:01:44.000 |
Unless you're singing country music because country music is nothing but depression and 00:01:49.000 |
Your dog dying, your girl leaving, your truck breaking down. 00:01:55.000 |
So here what Paul does, he absorbs the believer to live our lives wisely, right? 00:02:12.000 |
Not being drunk with wine, but be filled with the Holy Spirit. 00:02:16.000 |
So first of all, wow, you're going to hold that all day, huh? 00:02:34.000 |
So now pause that saying here that you can't drink wine. 00:02:39.000 |
I mean, God, God, Jesus pour water into wine. 00:02:46.000 |
I know some churches out there say, no, I don't really. 00:02:54.000 |
Because remember it was in a wedding and Jesus turned water into wine. 00:02:58.000 |
And then the people at the wedding party were like disturbed, upset. 00:03:02.000 |
Why did you like leave the best wine at the end? 00:03:13.000 |
And then we usually serve the diluted wine at the end of the wedding. 00:03:18.000 |
Because by the end of the wedding, people are too drunk to know how good or bad the wine was. 00:03:29.000 |
And it's by moderation, obviously, as Christians. 00:03:37.000 |
When someone's under the influence of alcohol, people act in certain ways. 00:03:46.000 |
I don't know if you, this might be a sensitive subject in your life. 00:03:50.000 |
Maybe your dad or your mom or your family has alcohol problems. 00:03:55.000 |
And you've seen how many of your friends who get drunk and they act weird or strange or they're under the influence. 00:04:04.000 |
Under the control, being intoxicated because of wine. 00:04:08.000 |
And so pause making an analogy here that he says, don't be drunk with wine, which leads to debauchery. 00:04:18.000 |
Be filled, be under the influence, be under the intoxication of the spirit. 00:04:27.000 |
Now, what has gone wrong and what has gone amok in the charismatic circles, in the charismatic church circles, 00:04:37.000 |
is that they believe if you're filled with the Holy Spirit, the same behavior of being drunk with wine is evident of being drunk with the Holy Spirit. 00:04:55.000 |
Now, you know, if you never see, if you don't know what I'm talking about, right? 00:04:59.000 |
And today in the charismatic circles, okay, even churches that name themselves, Pescatarian churches, 00:05:07.000 |
I just, right now, it's not a matter that I understand. 00:05:11.000 |
But anyways, like in the charismatic circles, where if you're filled with the Holy Spirit, like, like, like, like one of the evidences, like, 00:05:18.000 |
barking in the spirit, what the heck is that? 00:05:35.000 |
It's nothing but mind manipulation, right, and false teaching that cause people to behave in a manner that's nothing biblical. 00:05:48.000 |
And it's just become a complete disgrace and embarrassment to the actual work of the Holy Spirit. 00:05:56.000 |
Alright, now you know my opinion about all that, okay. 00:06:00.000 |
But here, what Paul is saying, when you're filled with the Holy Spirit, right, it's the idea of being under the sway or under the control of the Holy Spirit. 00:06:11.000 |
Being spirit filled has less to do with spontaneity and experience, and more to do with living a life marked by the glorious, sometimes slow, but steady, fruit of the Spirit. 00:06:30.000 |
And we'll talk about that in Glick chapter 5, verses 22 to 23. 00:06:35.000 |
And so what Paul is saying is that we feel the Holy Spirit and we're filled with the Holy Spirit. 00:06:42.000 |
We are walking with the Spirit and we are able to walk with the Spirit by the life, the presence, and the power of the Spirit. 00:06:49.000 |
The first thing we look at is the life through the Spirit. 00:07:03.000 |
Now, if you ever did a study of Romans, Peter, I don't know if you guys ever did a study of the book of Romans, but Romans chapter 8 is, maybe that's a good idea, right? 00:07:15.000 |
Anyways, I just gave you a topic, alright, alright. 00:07:23.000 |
So Romans chapter 8 is basically the epic of the book of Romans. 00:07:31.000 |
Romans chapter 8 is so significant as Paul, for chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, establishes doctrine. 00:07:42.000 |
And then for the doctrine, orthodoxy from chapter 8 and on, it talks about orthopraxy, or right living. 00:07:50.000 |
So like, you know, I wasn't pretty bad at doctrine this morning. 00:07:53.000 |
What I'm trying to say is that there is a place of doctrine, which is important, but right doctrine is important because it helps us to understand, right, how the Christian life, what God has done through salvation, but orthopraxy is rooted from orthodoxy. 00:08:15.000 |
And so in chapter 8, Paul talks about, okay, so this is what God has done. 00:08:23.000 |
He has justified us, He has saved us, He has redeemed us, He has forgiven us. 00:08:28.000 |
And then chapter 8 talks about, alright, this is how we have to live, through the Spirit. 00:08:34.000 |
So verse 1, Paul says, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." 00:08:56.000 |
No, it says there is absolutely no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, and it's based on the glorious doctrine of justification. 00:09:08.000 |
That God declares the sinner, you and I, righteous because of Christ's finished work on the cross, because Christ's righteousness is imputed to the believer through faith and faith alone. 00:09:24.000 |
And by doing so, that reality that happens when we trust in Christ, now there is no condemnation. 00:09:34.000 |
Do you know one of the biggest struggles people go through in life? 00:09:43.000 |
You talk to any psychiatrist, you go to any psychiatrist, and they will tell you the biggest struggle that people have in their life is guilt. 00:09:55.000 |
Guilt that they did something in the past, or maybe they didn't do what they ought to do. 00:10:02.000 |
And I'll talk to you a little bit more about even survivor's guilt that I went through myself. 00:10:13.000 |
There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 00:10:23.000 |
Where he says in verse 2, "For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus through the law of sin and death." 00:10:32.000 |
You see, Paul establishes in Romans chapter 1 through 7 that there is a law that was working, that that law was the law of sin and death. 00:10:42.000 |
That all humanity, that all individuals were born, conceived in sin, and thus tainted in slavery, in sin, in death. 00:10:59.000 |
Trust me, not only are we dead spiritually, but we are dying physically. 00:11:06.000 |
Last time I saw the ratio of death to life is 1 to 1. 00:11:12.000 |
Alright, I mean, you guys, you're young, you might not even feel it, you might not even think about it, but you're all going to die someday. 00:11:20.000 |
Seriously, turn to somebody next to you and say, "Tell them you're going to die." 00:11:33.000 |
You're laughing about it, but you're all going to die. 00:11:36.000 |
I mean, this whole world, this whole universe was infected by sin. 00:11:47.000 |
And this earth was cursed because of Adam and Eve's disobedience. 00:11:54.000 |
And this earth, this world we live in, with all the issues that it has, both morally and ecologically, I guess. 00:12:12.000 |
Because of sin infected this earth, and everything's dying. 00:12:24.000 |
So what Paul is saying here, "For the law of the spirit of life, for you as Christians, we have been set free from this law of sin, death, and bondage, and condemnation." 00:12:36.000 |
And we are free from sin's guilt and the power by the work of the Holy Spirit as He imparts into us, through the invitation of Christ's righteousness, right? 00:12:49.000 |
So verse 3, "For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, cannot do. 00:12:57.000 |
By sending His own Son, the likeness of simple flesh, and for sin, He condemns sin and life." 00:13:04.000 |
So what Paul is saying here, remember this morning when I shared with you, that what? 00:13:21.000 |
Alright, so, remember I mentioned to you earlier this morning that the law is like a mirror? 00:13:30.000 |
What could, what could, what couldn't the mirror do? 00:13:35.000 |
Like for example, like really, when you look in the mirror, right? 00:13:47.000 |
It just points to all your blemishes and how you look, whatever. 00:14:04.000 |
And so because the law couldn't change us, and because we couldn't obey the law, 00:14:10.000 |
when we see law, I'm not talking about one, two, three, four laws, 00:14:18.000 |
The scripture says if you break one, you've broken all of them. 00:14:21.000 |
Because God would be absolutely holy and perfect, and that's what? 00:14:29.000 |
And so the law couldn't change us, just like the mirror can't change us. 00:14:38.000 |
So the law actually shows us who we really are. 00:14:41.000 |
Lost, sin, rebellious, reprobates, hard-hearted, cunning, deceitful, evil. 00:14:55.000 |
And so what the law did, not only showed us how we look, 00:15:09.000 |
I did not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill the law. 00:15:12.000 |
And by being able to fulfill every single law that God had established, 00:15:17.000 |
Christ was now was able to be the perfect sacrifice for your sins and my sins. 00:15:27.000 |
It did not do what it ought to do, but because he couldn't do it, 00:15:33.000 |
God sent his son in the likeness of simple flesh for sin. 00:15:43.000 |
In order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, 00:15:47.000 |
who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the spirit. 00:15:53.000 |
So neither law nor human effort can bestow this life. 00:15:59.000 |
Only Christ Jesus by his death and resurrection did it. 00:16:04.000 |
Only through Christ's death and resurrection did it. 00:16:11.000 |
And the spirit of God now through his death and resurrection empowers us 00:16:16.000 |
and instructs us, helps us, encourages us to live according to his word. 00:16:27.000 |
But those, verse five, but those who live according to the flesh set their minds 00:16:31.000 |
to the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the spirit set their minds 00:16:46.000 |
That's why I started this morning by establishing right. 00:16:50.000 |
God's word, which is the wisdom of our minds and the spirit of God takes the word of God. 00:16:58.000 |
The word of God that we know, the word of God that we have studied, 00:17:01.000 |
that we have the word of God that we have heard, the word of God that we accept, 00:17:06.000 |
He takes that truth and the spirit of God brings it to life in our lives. 00:17:14.000 |
And so he says here, but those who live according to the flesh set their minds 00:17:20.000 |
Now again, you have to look at the context of what Paul says in the flesh, right? 00:17:25.000 |
There's the flesh, the body, which is not a sin. 00:17:31.000 |
But there's also the flesh, the ideal is the sin of nature that Paul is referring to. 00:17:37.000 |
And so for verse six, for to set the mind of the flesh is what? 00:17:42.000 |
Death, but to set the mind of the spirit is life and peace. 00:17:47.000 |
So again, by Christ's finished work on the cross, God brings us into the living harmony 00:17:52.000 |
with God, a right relationship with God, a reconciled relationship with God, 00:17:57.000 |
and His will and His spirit, what? His function, His work is to help us walk it out, 00:18:07.000 |
And He reorients us to walk in accordance to God's will and purpose 00:18:12.000 |
to the final destiny of life and peace as Paul refers to in Romans. 00:18:18.000 |
For the mind that is set of the flesh is what? 00:18:35.000 |
For those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 00:18:38.000 |
So what Paul's referring to here actually is one who has not been redeemed 00:18:43.000 |
in this portion of scripture right now, okay? 00:18:46.000 |
He's referring to those who are in the flesh and unable to walk in the spirit. 00:18:56.000 |
Give me a minute here. I lost my notes for whatever reason. I can't find it. 00:19:01.000 |
I tell you, you know computers are fantastic. 00:19:17.000 |
So there is a struggle between the flesh and the spirit. 00:19:31.000 |
That's why verse six, for to set the mind on the flesh is dead, 00:19:36.000 |
but to set the mind on the spirit is life and peace. 00:19:40.000 |
It refers to here in Romans chapter eight, okay? 00:19:44.000 |
And so again I mention here the battle is in our minds. 00:19:54.000 |
living out the spiritual life by what we know and what we believe. 00:20:02.000 |
Who is the most influential, powerful preacher in your life? 00:20:24.000 |
Most people speak and preach to themselves all the time. 00:20:32.000 |
You spend more time preaching or speaking to yourself 00:20:39.000 |
That's why Pastor Peter, I thought it was so appropriate 00:20:41.000 |
when he said that basically he was sort of like summing it up 00:20:44.000 |
about remember how when a preacher preaches to you, right? 00:20:48.000 |
There's that human element that sort of filters the word of God. 00:20:52.000 |
Now, it doesn't mean that the position or the work of the pastor 00:20:56.000 |
or preacher is not important because if it wasn't, 00:21:16.000 |
You get more from studying the word on your own actually. 00:21:58.000 |
How many of you are bored, like, in Korea or other parts outside? 00:22:16.000 |
But if you talk to your--maybe your grandparents. 00:22:35.000 |
That generation, that generation that survived the Korean War, okay, 00:22:45.000 |
Because it was so depressing after the Korean War. 00:22:48.000 |
I mean, people have lost their family members, whole families. 00:22:51.000 |
They lost property, lost everything they owned dear to them, 00:22:56.000 |
And then they come to America, can't speak the language, right, 00:22:59.000 |
struggling with the--in the '70s, you know, when your parents or my parents came, 00:23:03.000 |
struggling with the whole identity of, you know, 00:23:07.000 |
surrounded by, you know, Americans, Caucasians. 00:23:20.000 |
All right, but, I mean, really, it was very difficult for them to leave their 00:23:23.000 |
motherland, right, come to Korea, from Korea to the U.S., 00:23:26.000 |
so that you and I could have a better opportunity. 00:23:28.000 |
And their emotions were basically sad or mad. 00:23:34.000 |
But what I'm telling you is that what you preach to yourself, 00:23:42.000 |
And I tell you, I preach--I have to watch my heart and watch my mind, 00:23:54.000 |
Or are you preaching shame and doubt and guilt and preaching defeat and 00:24:01.000 |
preaching, you know, what the enemy is preaching? 00:24:14.000 |
And so we win or lose this Christian life by what we preach to ourselves. 00:24:20.000 |
That's why it's so essential for you and I to read your own Bible, 00:24:26.000 |
to study it, to know it, to redeem the time when you're driving a car. 00:24:31.000 |
You know, one of the things that--I don't like traffic, 00:24:34.000 |
but the only thing that's redeeming in traffic is to listen to a really 00:24:45.000 |
And when that--and the Spirit then can take the Word in us and saturate it 00:24:52.000 |
If you're not preaching the Word of God in your life, in your mind, 00:24:56.000 |
in your heart, okay, the Spirit of God can't take that. 00:24:59.000 |
I mean, if you don't have it, He can't take what's not there to make 00:25:04.000 |
But as you saturate your hearts and minds with the Word of God, 00:25:09.000 |
the Spirit of God is able to take that and you're able to preach that truth 00:25:27.000 |
"For though we walk in the flesh," right, meaning we live in this body, 00:25:30.000 |
"we are not waging war according to the flesh. 00:25:33.000 |
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, 00:25:37.000 |
but have divine power to destroy strongholds." 00:25:50.000 |
We destroy arguments and any lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God. 00:26:06.000 |
Anything that's contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:26:13.000 |
And he said, "We destroy arguments and any lofty opinion, opinion, 00:26:19.000 |
against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive." 00:26:30.000 |
And you take every thought, everything in your mind, captive to obey Christ, 00:26:36.000 |
being ready to punish every disobedience when your obedience is complete. 00:26:42.000 |
In January of 1863, anybody know what happened that was significant at that time? 00:26:51.000 |
President Abraham Lincoln, through executive order, 00:27:10.000 |
And when the war was over, the South was defeated and the Civil War ended. 00:27:14.000 |
But even after the war was over and all slaves were free, 00:27:23.000 |
were struggling for their individual rights and freedom. 00:27:32.000 |
So, as we as Christians, right, even though the war is over, 00:27:46.000 |
Yes, you can get a little excited about that. 00:27:50.000 |
Praise God, Christ came and he has defeated sin forever. 00:27:57.000 |
And he died on the cross and said, "It is finished." 00:28:08.000 |
The Jews with all their ceremonies couldn't do it. 00:28:16.000 |
And God declared to all the angels and all demons and all humanity 00:28:22.000 |
that man is free for those who receive Christ Jesus as Lord. 00:28:35.000 |
So, even though God declared the freedom of his children 00:28:43.000 |
God declared justification to Christ's righteousness, 00:28:51.000 |
struggling to implement salvation in our lives. 00:28:56.000 |
And it happens through the word of God and the grace of God. 00:29:22.000 |
the spirit of God, of him who raised Jesus from the dead, 00:29:37.000 |
That's why the resurrection was so significant. 00:29:47.000 |
And so the spirit who raised Jesus right from the dead 00:29:53.000 |
now dwells in us and transforms our life every day 00:30:02.000 |
and changes our personal spheres of influence. 00:30:18.000 |
Just for us to have what we call it a holy huddle. 00:30:49.000 |
And that is what God now through his power spirit, right? 00:30:57.000 |
He saves us, transforms us and wants to use us. 00:31:07.000 |
We're a bunch of monthly cruel people, right? 00:31:21.000 |
And he uses all that right through the power of the spirit 00:31:30.000 |
where you're at, your home, your community, this world. 00:31:36.000 |
And so what did Jesus did after he resurrected 00:31:52.000 |
he talks about when the spirit of God comes, okay, 00:31:55.000 |
he will empower you, dunamis, dunamis, dynamite, right? 00:32:20.000 |
But what do we do with the power that God has given us? 00:32:49.000 |
One day we went to the gym between class or whatever, 00:33:04.000 |
"Hey, man, why do you work out so much, right? 00:33:20.000 |
That's how we do it a lot of times in the church. 00:33:30.000 |
I mean, you see these bodybuilders who build their body 00:38:43.000 |
if I remember, and I was just having breakfast. 00:39:36.000 |
The Bradley would easily fit about 12 soldiers, 00:40:34.000 |
and the glasses are three inches thick, right? 00:41:26.000 |
You just don't see yourself how you are, right? 00:41:50.000 |
Because we were constantly fighting and angry, 00:41:57.000 |
And by the way, you know what I find out too about men? 00:42:21.000 |
and I was also dealing with survivalist guilt. 00:42:46.000 |
and they came back with all the same symptoms. 00:42:51.000 |
I decided to give them the option to retire early. 00:42:58.000 |
And for years, I didn't know what God was going to do with this, 00:43:08.000 |
You know, when I got out, I figured, okay, well, you know, 00:43:11.000 |
I was a chaplain, so I should do a pastoral ministry. 00:43:36.000 |
with a ministry called the PTSD Foundation of America. 00:43:41.000 |
to help combat veterans who come back from deployment 00:43:57.000 |
I mean, we literally, like, rescue veterans, right? 00:44:04.000 |
you got guys who are what you call PTSD and functional. 00:44:07.000 |
And today, by the grace of God, I have PTSD, but I'm functional. 00:44:11.000 |
But there's the other extreme where guys, you know, with PTSD, 00:44:14.000 |
and girls too, right, obviously, who serve in combat, 00:44:17.000 |
who are dysfunctional, like, complete dysfunctional. 00:44:24.000 |
They can't relate to people in normal, healthy ways. 00:44:38.000 |
I have the medication. I have the medication. 00:44:40.000 |
I've come across veterans with 20 different kinds of medications. 00:44:44.000 |
Actually, I was on 9 different kinds of medications, you know, in the past. 00:44:48.000 |
You know, medication for anxiety, medication for insomnia, 00:44:51.000 |
medication for my headaches, I mean, whatever. 00:44:53.000 |
It was like medication, medication, medication. 00:44:55.000 |
And what happens, a lot of the veterans, they get addicted to these opioids. 00:45:00.000 |
The suicide rate is so much higher than the average civilian. 00:45:04.000 |
The divorce rates are, like, skyrocketed in the veteran community. 00:45:09.000 |
Do you know one-third of our homeless in America are veterans? 00:45:16.000 |
It's crazy. I heard from Peter that your associate pastor, Mark, 00:45:24.000 |
He was in the National Guard. He came back from Iraq or Afghanistan, 00:45:37.000 |
I don't know all of you, and I don't know all your background. 00:45:42.000 |
But I know one thing. We are all broken people. 00:45:45.000 |
We are all broken people, some way or some form or some degree. 00:45:53.000 |
It's through our brokenness, He empowers us to do work in ministry, 00:45:58.000 |
to touch and heal and bring salvation, bring redemption into other broken people. 00:46:11.000 |
That's why Paul says, "I don't rejoice," right? 00:46:14.000 |
He doesn't say, "I don't rejoice in my knowledge. I don't rejoice in all my abilities and my strength, 00:46:27.000 |
And God uses Paul and you and I in our brokenness to bring ministry and healing to others. 00:46:34.000 |
You know, I tell you, this is how I look at the Christian life, is this. 00:46:38.000 |
It's one beggar telling another beggar where the bread is. 00:46:49.000 |
That's what God is calling us for you and I to do. 00:46:52.000 |
And God does it by empowering us through His Spirit. 00:46:56.000 |
Let's continue. I'm sorry. Let me move on here. 00:46:59.000 |
So, the second thing we want to get is the presence of the Spirit right in our lives. 00:47:19.720 |
his presence through spirit flesh is fiber 16. 00:48:12.100 |
the violence by two men in the octagon, right? 00:48:24.700 |
I don't know if that gets you excited or not. 00:48:54.220 |
the spirit of God only can take what is in you, 00:49:00.780 |
it's empowering to do the work God has called you to do 00:49:05.220 |
and to help you to overcome sin and temptation. 00:49:09.420 |
So we experience victory through the spirit of God. 00:49:18.460 |
the requirements of the covenant of grace on our hearts 00:49:22.380 |
according to the God's requirement of loving God and others. 00:49:26.660 |
Remember I talked about being a practitioner of God's word? 00:49:32.740 |
Okay? And actually I don't mind lawyers practicing law, 00:49:35.940 |
but I do have an issue with doctors practicing medicine. 00:49:44.060 |
But it's the whole idea of putting to practice 00:49:54.260 |
But God, even in our shortcomings and failures, 00:50:01.820 |
And so we are guided by the character and the care of God. 00:50:08.660 |
striving to please him in the power of his might, 00:50:11.900 |
rather than the strength of our own resolve or resources. 00:50:18.020 |
As we continue to pursue God through his word, 00:50:21.060 |
God is able to use that because he pursues us. 00:50:25.540 |
And we discover that the greatest pleasure in this life 00:50:31.220 |
As we lead, and as we are led by the Holy Spirit. 00:50:40.260 |
It says, "Now the works of the flesh are evident," right? 00:50:47.380 |
This is saying that any form of sexual activity 00:51:08.420 |
"about homosexuality because Jesus never said homosexuality. 00:51:11.780 |
"He didn't say anything about homosexuality." 00:51:30.380 |
And he said that no man could have a son through. 00:51:32.900 |
So the way, by affirming heterosexual marriage, 00:51:44.100 |
or sexual sins, or any other kind of marriage. 00:52:12.180 |
All right, what they're failing to understand 00:52:19.180 |
first of all, Jesus didn't color the red, okay? 00:52:45.740 |
The whole, both old and new are one word of God. 00:53:15.700 |
Do you believe, Pastor Ed, that there's a gay gene? 00:53:48.420 |
Micro is when species adapt and change within the cell. 00:53:53.260 |
Macro is when one species becomes another species. 00:53:58.460 |
There's no proof at all that we see in science, okay? 00:54:01.900 |
But if you think about it, if you were to, right, 00:54:41.220 |
I don't believe that there is a gay gene like biologically, 00:54:43.980 |
but because I believe that homosexuality is a sin, 00:55:00.440 |
You know one of the things that really disturbs me, 00:55:04.100 |
right, with this whole new transgender, yaddy yaddy, 00:55:08.940 |
psychobabble garbage people are talking about, okay? 00:55:17.060 |
when they worshiped the pagan god of Dianus, or Diana, 00:55:30.260 |
she'll have a whole bunch of breasts and male genitals. 00:55:42.140 |
Like today, that they're encouraging young children, 00:55:48.620 |
to go through a sex change, that's crazy thinking. 00:55:55.020 |
I mean, you can't even get a driving license, you know, 00:56:04.840 |
where we are so confused what sexuality is all about, 00:56:08.420 |
because we have gone away from what God has explained 00:56:17.020 |
"The works of pleasure evident sexuality, impurity, 00:56:20.540 |
"sexuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, 00:56:25.540 |
"fists of anger, rivalries, dissension, division, 00:56:28.660 |
"envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these." 00:56:31.100 |
I warn you, Paul says, as I warned you before, 00:56:46.220 |
Is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, 00:57:04.980 |
"and his desires, and if we live by the spirit, 00:57:11.860 |
"provoking one another and envying one another." 00:57:18.540 |
but they do not prioritize others, what is it, right? 00:57:30.660 |
"For they do not prioritize others above self 00:57:52.480 |
or satanic bible, they have commandments too. 00:57:56.020 |
And you know the greatest commandment they have? 00:58:09.820 |
And it's a battle, and for those who practice these things, 00:58:19.180 |
See, the Christian life begins where, again, wait. 00:58:22.180 |
One receives the spirit through the hearing with faith, 00:58:26.120 |
the gospel, trust in Christ, Lord, Lord, and Savior, 00:58:29.060 |
and then the spirit exercises through his presence 00:58:43.540 |
Look at the text here, look at the text here. 00:58:53.300 |
The fruit of the spirit, which is love, joy, peace, 00:58:56.500 |
kindness, gentleness, meekness, and self-control. 00:59:01.540 |
And so what we see here is that Paul is referring to 00:59:05.300 |
when one is redeemed and the spirit of God indwells us 00:59:09.180 |
and the spirit of God takes the word that is in us, 00:59:15.340 |
So the fruit of the spirit is not some checklist, right? 00:59:38.420 |
In Ephesians 3, verse, go back to Ephesians 3, 00:59:54.980 |
"from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named," 01:00:04.420 |
"he may grant you to be strengthened," through what? 01:00:08.740 |
"With power through his spirit in his inner being." 01:00:18.660 |
What's the purpose of Paul's prayer for the believer 01:00:28.100 |
"That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, 01:00:35.300 |
So how do you know, what is the evidence of a believer 01:00:38.940 |
is filled, is being filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit 01:01:00.940 |
and to mold us into the image of his son, Jesus Christ. 01:01:15.620 |
We're gonna talk about that tomorrow a little more. 01:01:23.700 |
I assume most of you claim to be Christians, right? 01:01:25.740 |
But let me ask you a simple question, all right? 01:01:35.620 |
gives us an analogy to better understand the Trinity? 01:01:45.940 |
- Okay, so what's the three things in the marriage? 01:02:00.260 |
But I'm talking about the essence of the Trinity. 01:02:06.900 |
I mean, you have the son, the son, not S-O-N, S-U-N. 01:02:13.260 |
Like, you guys look out there, there's a sun, okay? 01:02:18.860 |
the son, the core, right, and the energy, the heat, right, 01:02:44.580 |
Or have you ever heard an analogy about an individual, 01:02:47.300 |
like, say I'm a father, right, I am a father, 01:03:02.300 |
Okay, the yolk, yellow, the white, and the shell. 01:03:13.020 |
And if you ever thought to understand the Trinity 01:03:24.180 |
The Trinity, right, as we understand from scripture, 01:03:28.500 |
is father, son, husband, three distinct persons, 01:03:39.740 |
You know, I really can't explain that mysterious, 01:03:48.860 |
the Father is God, God the Son is God, right? 01:03:54.500 |
There are not three gods, one God, three persons, 01:03:59.140 |
in equal in essence, or in plurality in power. 01:04:27.900 |
But I tell you, understanding the doctrine of Trinity 01:04:32.060 |
should empower, should influence our lives as Christians. 01:04:37.060 |
And so we are saved from first to last by the triune God. 01:04:41.220 |
God plans salvation, the Son purchased salvation, 01:04:46.780 |
and the Holy Spirit, what, produces salvation. 01:04:58.500 |
so that we may be rooted and grounded in love. 01:05:05.700 |
Let me read to you, you don't have to turn it there, 01:05:11.940 |
but let me read to you in Ezekiel 36, verse 22 to 28. 01:05:22.300 |
not only to Israel, but all those who trusted him. 01:05:25.220 |
It says, "Therefore, say to the house of Israel, 01:05:27.100 |
"Thus says the Lord, it is not for your sake, 01:05:30.020 |
"oh house of Israel, that I am about to act." 01:05:43.180 |
"I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, 01:05:48.820 |
"for which you have profaned from among them. 01:05:50.900 |
"And the nations will know that I am the Lord, 01:05:55.140 |
"When though you, I vindicate my holiness before your eyes," 01:06:11.740 |
"and you shall be clean from all your uncleanliness, 01:06:16.060 |
"and from all your idols, I will cleanse you." 01:06:32.740 |
committed all the sins of all the pagan nations. 01:06:43.700 |
But through all that, what Ezekiel was saying 01:06:49.740 |
God will still accomplish his mission of salvation. 01:07:01.340 |
That's, church, that is great, great promise from God. 01:07:24.060 |
will start the work of salvation in your life, 01:07:27.620 |
and trust me, he will complete it to the end. 01:07:41.140 |
Like, you know, I don't know if I told this to people, 01:07:49.460 |
You go in people's lives, and people's lives are ugly. 01:07:52.580 |
There's sin, it smells, and it's dirty, and it's messy. 01:07:58.980 |
But you know what the great promise of scripture? 01:08:02.420 |
That God is faithful, that even in our messiness, right, 01:08:05.940 |
from the beginning to the end, he is faithful, 01:08:08.540 |
and he will complete the work of salvation in our life, 01:08:16.860 |
and I will give you a new heart, a new spirit. 01:08:26.180 |
and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh, 01:08:33.020 |
And he said, I will put my spirit, his presence, 01:08:38.020 |
his power, his life within you, and cause you. 01:09:00.660 |
I believe that no one can take away my salvation, 01:09:05.300 |
and I tell that person, trust me, you're not that powerful. 01:09:12.900 |
And if you believe in the doctrine of relation, 01:09:18.060 |
which I believe the Bible teaches clearly, right? 01:09:21.220 |
Salvation, through the power and the presence, 01:09:32.580 |
you can be hard-hearted, but God, in his sovereignty, 01:09:38.860 |
That said, that sounds like I have no choice. 01:09:42.460 |
Just like you have no choice in trusting in Christ, 01:09:54.700 |
but in completion, the work of salvation in your life. 01:09:58.020 |
That's a great promise, that's a wonderful promise. 01:10:02.940 |
We thank you, Father, that the only hope of salvation 01:10:14.340 |
to perform the miracle of removing our stony, 01:10:18.900 |
hard, rebellious hearts, and giving us hearts 01:10:36.060 |
of clever strategies, or behavioral modification, 01:10:55.820 |
of the Holy Spirit, divine power that changes us 01:11:02.580 |
Lord, our prayer, God, our deep prayer today, 01:11:07.580 |
and the rest of our lives, is that you would change us 01:11:11.780 |
from the inside out, that you would transform us, 01:11:25.620 |
Lord, may we be a people who are developed by the Spirit.
