and anyone who's a serious student of scripture is going to at least follow those footnotes, read them, and try to understand why the translation was made the way it was. Sometimes it's very helpful to understand and explain why the translation uses this word rather than a different synonym or something like that.

It lets you get a little bit of a peek into the mind of the translator.
